In the Specification phase, the testers specify the required tests per unit, or integration step on the basis of the allocated test techniques from within the test basis (development basis) and make any support software for the testing, with the aim of having as much prepared as possible in order to allow the test execution to proceed as quickly as possible.

Within the Specification phase, the following activities are distinguished:

1. Investigating test patterns (optional)
2. Creation of test specifications
3. Creation of support software.
