A detailed cutover plan must typically include dates and times, tasks, areas of impact, who is responsible for each task, stakeholders, the status, and any comments related to that task. A series of checks will be performed at key milestones in order to evaluate the go/no-go decision. If cut over is delayed because of a failed test, the testing steps leading up to that point must be completely re-executed. Other steps may require additional effort and cost to return the implementation site to its pre-existing state in case of a test failure.
This technical cutover plan should also have a fallback plan. The fallback plan must identify the conditions and tasks required in case the infrastucture is not ready for implementation on the agreed implementation date, or should unplanned difficulties happen during deployment. In either case, a schedule must be developed to establish the decision making process that would invoke a fallback and to identify the tasks required to identify and solve issues or errors raised during deployment tasks.
The early life support (ELS) period is a targeted period of time within the lifecycle of the transition project and must only be exited once the business stakeholders, transition team and the Service Delivery representative have agreed that all the criteria have been met and the Technology And Infrastructure are stable. Once the ELS period concludes the transfer of control to the Run team is complete. |
